Constructing arguments and evidence for debate

1.Construct four political debates on topics that will elicit divergent responses (e.g. Bill of Rights, immigration)

2. Group students into pairs and assign them a topic and a position of “for” or “against”.

3. Give student pairs ten minutes to prepare their presentation in which they need to explain their cases and offer four to six arguments.

4. Each side has two minutes to present.

5. The debate is followed by class discussion
